Doug McCarthy is providing our speaker for the February 27th meeting. Susan Wandishin is the Senior Director of Operations at the Dear Jack Foundation where she has worked since 2017. A St. Louis native, she holds a BS in Education from the University of Missouri – Columbia and spent five years as a special education teacher. After becoming a stay-at-home mom, she actively volunteered and worked for multiple nonprofits, helping to found several organizations. Now an empty nester, she is passionate about her work, where she applies her experience to a cause that has significantly impacted her life. She will be sharing with us the history and information about the Dear Jack Foundation - a nonprofit that provides support programs for young adult cancer patients, survivors, and their families. These programs include a “make-a-wish” element.

Larry Armstrong has arranged for Bruce Heagstedt, the Executive Director of Heartbeat Denver, to share their story with us on March 13. He’ll be introduced by Sir Paul Linton. Bruce was born in Chicago, Illinois and later got an MBA from University of Chicago. His career spanned over 40 years in IT consulting - working for Computer Sciences Corporation , Deloitte Consulting, and IBM in sales and executive management. He also worked for M&I Data Services managing a nationwide consulting group of 1000 consultants. He retired in 2012.
Bruce is a member of Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Denver, where he has served as Corporation President, a Deacon, on their Finance Committee, and currently serves on the church's governing board. In 2023 he helped restructure, rebrand and founded the Church-housed homeless shelter as Heartbeat Denver Working Men’s Program - where he currently volunteers as Executive Director. With the urging of the Denver Department of Human Services, the program began in the Winter of 1986 as the Central Shelter for Homeless Working Men. He will bring to us the heart-warming story of men turning their lives around - when committing to their recovery in a structured, no-nonsense, supportive and caring community. |
